Clinical Skills

About

Our society offers a wide range of practical opportunities for students at every stage of their surgical journey.

We kick off the year with a Freshers’ Clinical Skills Taster, where new members can experience the fundamentals of surgery through scrubbing in, instrument handling, and basic techniques.

Throughout the year, we run suturing sessions tailored to different experience levels: beginner workshops cover simple interrupted and continuous sutures, intermediate sessions introduce vertical and horizontal mattress techniques, and advanced sessions focus on subcuticular suturing and hand ties. For those keen to broaden their procedural knowledge, we also host specialist workshops such as Chest Drain Insertion and even a Simulated Aortic Valve Replacement in collaboration with other societies, providing unique exposure to high-level surgical practice in a supportive learning environment.
